Any Other Way – July 19, 2018

Paul Banter just finished his phone call with Jansen Myrrh. Good kid, but she ain’t got what it takes to make it in the business no matter who her uncle is. She needs to get that edge that he had or she’s gonna get eaten up. He’s gotten a soft spot for the kid but only because he knew her uncle and that was a tragedy in itself.

Another story for another time.

Paul Banter was for the most part, a loner. He didn’t like people. He didn’t want to associate with people and he certainly didn’t want to deal with people. So, he locked himself in his hotel room and ordered in waiting for his food. He had that heart to heart with Jansen and he’s getting impatient for his meal.

Believe it or not, he tends to attract some attention when he goes out into the public. He can’t just put on a pair of sunglasses and a derby and pretend to be nobody. He’s been around the block a few times and he typically gets noticed. Besides, it takes a lot of food to keep his slim trim body in shape.

His food comes, he eats and he decides to take it easy flipping on the television until he falls asleep.

The next morning, he gets up and prepares to move on to the next town he has to go when the IWS cameras show up and he already knows what they want.

“Creed! I told you that you didn’t have what it takes to get the job done on Paul Banter. You know why? Because I’m Better Than You, you dumb loser! I’m better than any of those wanna-be, smart marks out there in the audience thinking they know how it all works. I’m better than the guy shuffling around selling popcorn and I’m sure as hell better than a no account loser like Creed. You walked up to me like you had a chance and you ran your big fat mouth and I put you down. I made you bleed. Get in my face one more time and I’ll show you why I’m better than you, one more time. But you know who else I’m better than?”

“Wallace Barr, that’s who!”

“You know what, Barr? I heard you crying like a little bitch last week about how Creed attacked you. But you know what, you didn’t do a damn thing about it. You know what you did do? You lost! You know what I did? I won. This is why, Wallace Barr, I’m completely better than you in every possible way.”

“What I want to know is why that good for nothing Creed is getting a damn title shot and I’m not! I beat that mug fair and square last week and he gets a title shot? It ain’t happening. I promise you that.”

“Wallace Barr. I’m beating you. Get use to that fact right now and save yourself a ton of disappointment. All it’s gonna take is one SPLAT and you’ll see exactly why I’m better than you.”

They wrap up the recording and he’s back in his SUV heading down to his next town. Another town. Another match. It’s  his life and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
